Welcome to Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church
We're glad you're here! We hope that PHPC can become a safe place for you to go on a challenging journey. As you initiate this spiritual adventure, we want to join you on the way. Whether you're exploring faith or coming back after time away, ready to dive deeper into a relationship with Christ, or you want to make a difference in our world, many of us are in the same place. We don't have all the answers, but we sense God is changing lives here in a special way . . . and we hope you'll be part of it!
November 2014 eTidings
Advent is the time observed in many Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparing for the birth of Jesus at Christmas. The term is an English version of the Latin word adventus, which means "coming". PHPC will provide four opportunities for our church and community to celebrate on Advent this season.
~ Reason for the Season Dinners ~
PHPC invites all members, friends and visitors to join us in celebrating Advent through Sunday evening pot-luck dinners and advent celebrations, to be held at the church. Each Sunday evening of Advent, we will join together for a meal and a service including singing of Christmas hymns, Scripture reading and lighting of advent candles in the dining room. Each service will begin with a meal at 5:00 PM, on the following dates:
November 30 The candle of prophesy
December 7 The candle of Bethlehem
December 14 The candle of the shepherds
December 21 The candle of the angels
The Purpose of Christmas by Rick Warren
This 4 week Bible Study will begin Monday, November 24th at 9:30am at PHPC. What drains the peace, love and joy out of your life during this Christmas season? Join our group and feel the power of our Lord and his community of supportive friends.
May God bless your advent this year! Nancy Nutter, DCE
Sharing the Sword Ministry
Peter & Carole Borgman are making plans for their 10th mission trip to Mexico. Lord willing, they will leave Lake Wylie in their 5th wheel camper from January—mid April with about 500 pairs of shoes, over 600 New Testaments in Spanish, teaching materials, and gifts for the children.
How can you help? Please keep them in your prayers:
- That they are sensitive to God’s leading and not their own
- Safety in travel as they drive approx. 7,000 miles, and must pass several “inspections” along the way
- That their financial needs would be met: $5,000 for fuel, tolls, & camping fees, and the goal of 700 New Testaments at a cost of $1,300.00
If you wish to contribute to the mission trip send your tax deductible gift to: Sharing the Sword, 244 Catawba Crest Lane, Lake Wylie, SC 29710.

Cub Scout Pack 80 has had an amazing September. We have recruited 15 boys and some great new leaders. From October 10th-12th, the Tiger, Bear and Wolf dens (1st, 2nd, 3rd grade) went to the Fall Cub-o-ree, at Belk Scout Camp. The theme was “Fiesta”. From October 24th-26th, Webelos (4th & 5th grade) went to the Web-lo-ree, held at Camp Grimes, and the theme was “Zombie Preparedness”. Troop 80 was at Camp Grimes for the Camp-o-ree during the same weekend. The theme “Cook Your Buns Off” will help the scouts earn the Cooking Merit Badge, an Eagle Scout required merit badge. As always, the boys start off with plenty of energy and come home tired, dirty and smiling while dragging their backpacks behind them.
One of the biggest fundraising events for the Scouts is the POPCORN sale. It is going on now and your purchase makes a difference, 70% of your purchase goes back to local scouting and our pack and troop. Please contact Angie White (email@example.com) about any purchases. Prices range from $10 to $50, if you don’t like popcorn, you can purchase Popcorn For Our Troops.
